To set up your direct debit instruction online you will need details of the bank account you will be paying from (your bank card or cheque book contains all the bank details that you require):

  • Your bank or building society name and branch address
  • Your account number and sort code
  • Only the bank account holder is allowed to set up a direct debit instruction. If you are not the account holder then you will need permission from the account holder before continuing.

    The details of the your direct debit instruction will be sent to you within three working days or no later than 14 days before the first collection.

    The direct debit guarantee

    • If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your direct debit North Somerset Council will notify you 14 days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.
    • If you request North Somerset Council to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request.
    • If an error is made in the payment of your direct debit, by North Somerset Council or your bank you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society
      – If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when North Somerset Council asks you to.
    • You can cancel a direct debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation required. Please also notify us.
